Research from the Entertainment Software Association’s annual report on the gaming world found that more than a quarter of gamers are over 50, which is higher than the percentage of gamers under 18 (26%). A further 17% of gamers are aged between 36 and 49, which means gamers over the age of 35 make up almost half of the total gaming demographic.
The stereotype of gamers being moody teens locking themselves away in their bedrooms for marathon gaming sessions is now void – people of all ages have grown up with video games and still enjoy them even into retirement. There is no longer a ‘typical’ video game player – gamers could be your grandparent, your teacher, the businesswoman you passed in the office or the policeman patrolling your neighborhood.
